Running While Traveling: Seattle Style

Seattle

I rarely go anywhere without my running shoes.  Whether it’s a weekend trip to visit family or a week-long getaway to a foreign destination, running remains one of my priorities.  I always leave room in my duffel bag or suitcase to pack my essential gear.  I find running one of the most exciting ways to view and experience a city, and I’m always very energized for my vacation workouts.

Most recently, my husband and I were in Seattle where we ran along the Elliott Bay.  The first morning we ran was cloudy and slightly rainy so the views weren’t super spectacular, though we did get a glimpse of the Space Needle against the overcast skies.  However, the second morning we ventured out, the sun was shining brightly and we were able to take in the mountain views while logging our miles.  It was a breathtaking sight to watch the ferries crossing the bay with the mountains as the backdrop. On one of our outings, another runner recognized my Twin Cities Marathon shirt and gave a shoutout.  We finished each of our runs with a stop at Starbucks, which is necessary when visiting the city that launched the coffee giant.

There is nothing more satisfying than starting a vacation day with a run. Generally, we tend to indulge while on vacation, enjoying the local cuisine and our favorite adult beverages.  Starting with a run, no matter how short or long, always makes me feel a less guilty about my actions the rest of the day.
